Book of the Week: Celtic Run by Sean Vogel

This week we are featuring  Celtic Run, a middle grade novel by Sean Vogel and published by MB Publishing.  I am always game for a book that writes about adventure and treasure hunting and this one is sure to satisfy those interested in" action-adventure" books.   You feel like you are on the journey with Jake and enjoying the beautiful scenery of Ireland, where the story takes place.  I had a chance to speak to Sean this week about his middle-grade book that recently won a Dan Poynter's Global Ebook Award! Tell us how the idea for Celtic Run came about.  As a kid, some of my favorite stories featured ordinary kids who found themselves in extraordinarily harrowing situations, where all they had were their wits and each other to survive.  Growing up, I decided that someday I would write a series starring a gadget-oriented boy who, despite his own faults, would be able to lead his … [Read more...]

Book of the Week: I Was Here First by Chen Cohen-Merary

CastleBuilders BooClips recently released a really cute iBook called I Was Here First by Chen Cohen-Merary.  The illustrations are quite fun and most families have had this experience of a family pet who had to adjust when a new baby arrived.  Especially with dogs, who tend to be our surrogate children pre-babies!  I know our dog, Bear, was the center of our world until our daughter was born but luckily he was just protective of her and didn't have an issue with having to share his "pack".  I had a chance to correspond with Chen who resides in Israel to tell us more about how this story idea came about. Tell us how this idea for a children's book came about?  The idea of the story came to me from real life. My husband and I had a puppy long before we were married and became parents to our son. As long as we had only a dog - he was our baby and we treated him like one. After Amit … [Read more...]

Book of the Week: The Witch With No Name

My good friends know that I absolutely LOVE Halloween so a good witch or goblins story is always a favorite around here!  Developer Slim Cricket of France has put out an adorable 3D  iBook called The Witch With No Name.  The quality of the graphics and animation are top rank and it reminds me a bit of Cinderella and The Three Little Pigs by Nosy Crow - it is that good!  Throughout the story you are able to touch the screen and fun animations and sound effects will keep the whole family entertained.  For example, we come across a  ghost hanging from the clothes line.  When you touch him, he says "Boooo" and disappears.  This is just one of the silly characters that show up from time to time throughout the story.  There are over 25 interactive pages, 7 games, and interactive ending and a huge surprise in store at the end of the story. We watch the nameless witch and Batina, her faithful … [Read more...]
