Guest Post :: One Appy Mama Reviews Wondershare MobileGo

Wondershare.logo

Wondershare MobileGO for the iOS is WONDERFUL For the past week I have been using a companion application for my iPhone 5 that goes beyond what iTunes has to offer. When you first launch Wondershare MobileGo for iOS  you will plug your iDevice up to your USB cable (just as if you're using iTunes). It will detect your iPhone/iPad/iPod and then you have a ton of options at your fingertips. From backing up photos to even texts (sms - yes I said backing up your TEXTS!!!) importing/exporting songs (this is my favorite fave fave)!!! Along with your playlists, contacts (import/export - outlook/windows mail along with the usual). This makes iTunes so much more - more than just managing your purchases of apps and iCloud items. Wondershare MobileGo for iOS is the perfect companion to iTunes and worth the investment if you use your iPhone/iPad/iPod the way I do (or … [Read more...]

Book of the Week: The Four Little Pigs

Pixel.LittlePigsbookcover.securedownload

Pixel Mouse House has just released a new eBook called The Four Little Pigs.  Yes, that's right - four little pigs!  Written and illustrated by Jose Maria Cardona and edited by Ted Enik, this story opens up wth three slim, springy and fast brothers jumping around. Their youngest brother is a roly-poly, pudgy fellow who has a hard time keeping up with his siblings.  For example, when he tries to cross over the wood footbridge, it isn't strong enough to hold him up so plop he goes into the river for a surprise cold bath.  He also has a hard time jumping up high to bouncve the ball on his head like his brothers can do so easily.  The illustrations are fun and Jose Maria Cardona does a good job at showing the different emotions the brothers are feeling.  You can just image how they feel when a mean, lean and hungry-lookiing wolf shows up in their yard.  The four little pigs stop what … [Read more...]

App of the Week: Kids Fun

KIDS4FUN.KF_icon

Kids Fun is an award-winning app that provides hours of entertainment for children's ages two to about six years old.  The graphics are wonderful and the sound effects charming.  The first page opens up and we can choose which animal/game we want to start with.  There are over 70 activities in included in the app including puzzles, matching games, coloring, memory games (which my six year old really enjoyed), hide-and-seek, dot-to-dot, stickers and more!  You can see why Kids Fun has been sold in over 60 countries! One of the things I really liked was the simplicity of the activities.  Your child will easily be able to figure out what each game requires.  And if your child isn't reading yet - no problem as there are no words in the entire app.  Again, the activities are easy enough to figure out what is required to do but will keep them interested in the task-at-hand.  Another feature … [Read more...]

App of the Week: The Prisoner of Carrot Castle

POCC Screenshot 1

Teaching kids the importance of eating quality foods is something I am quite passionate about.  One of the reasons I decided to get my masters in nutrition was because I wanted to know how best to take care of myself and my family as I truy believe that healthy foods are key to good health.  So when I came across Chris Pedersen's app The Prisoner of Carrot Castle - I was sold as it teaches kids how to eat healthy in a fun way. Ms. Pedersen does a great job teaching little ones the importance of healthy foods set in a magical world and Kate Jeong has done a wonderful job at illustrating this gorgeous and fun story.   I had a chance to speak to Chris Pedersen about her company, Purple Carrot Books, and her fun storybook app The Prisoner of Carrot Castle.    Tell us how Purple Carrot Books came about? While The Prisoner of Carrot Castle was in development as an app, I decided to … [Read more...]

Book of the Week: The Witch With No Name

SlimCricket.Slideshow_Book01_03_en

My good friends know that I absolutely LOVE Halloween so a good witch or goblins story is always a favorite around here!  Developer Slim Cricket of France has put out an adorable 3D  iBook called The Witch With No Name.  The quality of the graphics and animation are top rank and it reminds me a bit of Cinderella and The Three Little Pigs by Nosy Crow - it is that good!  Throughout the story you are able to touch the screen and fun animations and sound effects will keep the whole family entertained.  For example, we come across a  ghost hanging from the clothes line.  When you touch him, he says "Boooo" and disappears.  This is just one of the silly characters that show up from time to time throughout the story.  There are over 25 interactive pages, 7 games, and interactive ending and a huge surprise in store at the end of the story. We watch the nameless witch and Batina, her faithful … [Read more...]

By now most of you know I have a thing for pirates!  So when I saw this fun app in the App Store a few months back I immediately welcomed our newest mate to the high seas.  Cary Snowden wrote The Day I Became A Pirate after a long walk along the shores in Hawaii with his children.  Zach Clough does a wonderful job with the illustrations and I just love the way the pirates talk in the app.  Very fun!  It reached the Top 10 Paid Apps in iTunes and was chosen as a 2012 Award Finalist by Dan Poynter Global eBooks.  This will surely be a popular addition for the pirate-loving kid!  Here is an  excerpt from their website: The Day I Became A Pirate – An Interactive Pirate Book App for Kids is an interactive adventure book app about a boy who encounters a band of pirates, and they need his help to save a crew member. App of the Week: Rhyme-n-Time with Jane and Blayne

Rhyme-n-Time.picture

Rhyme-n-Time with Jane and Blayne This is a fun and educational app that helps teach little ones how to match words that rhyme.  My five year old was able to pick which words would rhyme by looking at the picture and understanding what the word meant.  It was a fun exercise for her to practice how to recognize words that rhyme and she really enjoyed it.  That is always the best way to learn -  having fun! Here is an excerpt from their website about the app: An educational app that focuses on, as you might guess, rhyming. Your child will have to find words that rhyme and words that do not in a fun format. There is also a wonderful rhyming story that goes along with the game. You can keep track of how your child is doing on a stats screen we provide. It shows you how many questions were answered correctly on the first, second and third tries. This app will not only teach your … [Read more...]

Oceanhouse Media has such a wonderful selection of storybook apps.  My five year old and I have really enjoyed their Dr. Seuss apps, Little Critters apps and many more.  They have just launched Just A Mess of  the Little Critters series and it is adorable. Here is an excerpt taken from their website: Little Critter's search for his baseball mitt leads him to the doorway of his bedroom which is "just a mess."
